A week of singing in the sun at Gran Canaria
A singing retreat on one of the Canary Islands (Spain) in the town of Puerto de las Nieves.
Imagine this: on Sunday you arrive in the picturesque fishing village of Puerto de las Nieves. You walk into El Cabo and meet the people you will be singing with this week. You bring your things to your room, take a nap or explore the village, and then join the welcome dinner on the roof terrace where you can watch a beautiful sunset.

From Monday to Friday we’ll be singing a lot, but you’ll also have plenty of time to go to the beach, hike or snorkel, read a book or have a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants in the harbor. On Saturday, unfortunately, it’s time to pack your suitcase again and head home.
During the week you will have choir rehearsals and singing lessons, both individually and in a group. This way there is enough variety between developing your singing technique and enjoying singing together. Of course, there will also be performances. We’ll have open mics and we end the week with a public performance in which we perform both the choir repertoire we have learned and the solos.

- A private room with private bathroom in a former hotel, within walking distance of the beach and natural pools

Participants
Amateur singers who love to sing in the sun
This first edition of the Vocal Retreat is aimed at amateur singers. That means singers who already sing in a choir, have singing lessons, sing in a band, or just enjoy singing and would love to do that for a week in the sun. The genre will mainly be popular music (pop, jazz, musical etc.).
Kim Nijs
Founder, vocal coach & choir conductor
Because Kim loves sun, sea and singing, she decided to combine these three and organize this Vocal Retreat. Kim graduated in 2011 from Music in Education at Codarts in Rotterdam and after that she specialized to become a conductor in vocal pop and jazz. She has been teaching voice lessons for years, has conducted several pop and jazz choirs and provided vocal coaching for several musical theater productions. More info (in Dutch) can be found at:
Location: Puerto de las Nieves
You will stay at the former hotel El Cabo in Puerto de las Nieves. Puerto de las Nieves is a cute fishing village in the municipality of Agaete, situated on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. Besides a beach and port with nice restaurants, the town also has the characteristic “piscinas naturales”. On this Spanish island off the coast of Morocco it is actually always summer; in November the temperature averages between 18 and 22 degrees.
At El Cabo you will stay in a private room with its own bathroom. There is also a large communal kitchen/living room and a roof terrace with fantastic views of the cliffs and the ocean. If the weather is clear, you can even see Mount Teide which is on the neighboring island of Tenerife!
