Participants
Amateur singers who love to sing in the sun
For now the Vocal Retreat is primarily aimed at amateur singers. That means singers who already sing in a choir, have singing lessons, sing in a band, or just enjoy singing and would love to do that for a week in the sun. The genre will mainly be popular music (pop, jazz, musical etc.).
Kim Nijs
Founder, vocal coach & choir conductor
Because Kim loves sun, sea and singing, she decided to combine these three and organize this Vocal Retreat. Kim graduated in 2011 from Music in Education at Codarts in Rotterdam and after that she specialized to become a conductor in vocal pop and jazz. She has been teaching voice lessons for years, has conducted several pop and jazz choirs and provided vocal coaching for several musical theater productions. Location: Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are part of Spain, but are located off the coast of Morocco. On these islands it is actually always spring/summer. Even in winter the temperature is around 18-20 degrees.
Each of the 8 islands has its own character, but they are characterized by space, tranquility and nature and of course the beautiful weather and sea!
The perfect location for a singing vacation in Spain!
Location: Playa Blanca – Lanzarote
Lanzarote, the most eastern of the Canary Islands, is a real volcanic island. It has no less than 123 volcanoes and is a beautifully tranquil island. Because the artist Cesar Manrique made sure that no mega-resorts were built during the time when tourism was rising, the island has kept its authenticity and you will therefore not feel overwhelmed by mass tourism. In the south of this small island you will find the town of Playa Blanca and here we have 2 villas at our availability during the vocal retreat.
In each villa there are 2 private rooms with double beds and 2 shared rooms with 2 single beds each. There is 1 shared bathroom per villa, a living room, kitchen and terrace. The villas are situated on a vacation park with a shared pool and restaurant and are about 15 minutes walk from the beach and restaurants.
Location: Puerto de las Nieves – Gran Canaria
You will stay at the former hotel El Cabo in Puerto de las Nieves. Puerto de las Nieves is a cute fishing village in the municipality of Agaete, situated on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. Besides a beach and port with nice restaurants, the town also has the characteristic “piscinas naturales”.
At El Cabo you will stay in a private room with its own bathroom. There is also a large communal kitchen/living room and a roof terrace with fantastic views of the cliffs and the ocean. If the weather is clear, you can even see Mount Teide which is on the neighboring island of Tenerife!
Booking
The next edition of this Vocal Retreat will take place in Lanzarote from Saturday March 2 to Saturday March 9, 2024. The price for this retreat of 7 nights is Eur. 875,00 for a shared room (2 person room) and Eur. 1025,00 for a private room.
This includes: all singing lessons and choir rehearsals, stay in a shared or private room (with shared bathroom), 7x breakfast + lunch incl. drinks, welcome dinner, unlimited coffee and tea.
Not included in the price are: plane ticket, transportation to the location, dinner (except on the welcome day), extra drinks, possible participation in excursion(s).
Terms and Conditions
The number of participants for the March retreat is 8 to 10 people. The Retreat can still be cancelled by me until December 31 at the latest. The sooner you sign up, the sooner we will know if the Retreat will take place! If I have to cancel the Retreat, your money will of course be fully refunded.
Payment
After registration you pay Eur. 100,00 deposit. Should you decide within 14 days not to participate, this amount will be refunded.
- 14 days after booking: pay 50% (of the total amount – deposit)
- December 31: pay 25%
- January 31: pay 25%
You can also choose to pay the total amount in 1 lump sum.
Cancellation policy
Should you pay the entire amount at once, the following cancellation fees will be charged upon cancellation:
- Between 14 days after your booking and before December 31: Deposit + 50% cancellation fee.
- Between December 31 and January 31: Deposit + 75% cancellation fee.
- After January 31: 100% cancellation fee.
